I'm mentioning this upfront because that's likely to turn a lot of people off before I even get to the perks of the system. On top of having to own a PS5, the headset costs $550. Support the platform.The PSVR 2 is going to suffer from severe sticker shock. I'd love to see a lot of devs consider moving to consoles too. Games like boneworks/blade and sorcery or other mechanically experimental games have really been a blast. I know everyone loves flashy graphics and massive open world but mechanically speaking indie games can be a lot more risky. With in like half a year people who had releases had 5-10x the sales vs PC. The second the quest blew up, in weeks devs were already prototyping and working on a port. I think we should see a lot more support.įor indie really the size of the market is what drives them, considering most devs use unity/unreal it's not that insane for a small team to have something be multi platform. Sony obviously tho will be doing first party work and imo with how the PSVR2 is the first really full featured console vr.
The best bet right now is to encourage devs to consider vr ports of their current games and hope for more than just a vr camera(At least for AAA).
The issue is spending 150 million dollars to make one on one of the smallest gaming platforms, when you can spend 300k for outsourced work on a mobile game and make millions.
